5 Practical Tips to Learn Spanish Faster

Everyone learning Spanish eventually asks the same question: why does progress feel so slow? After years of teaching one-on-one, the answer is almost never "you need a better app" — it's usually one of these five things.

1. Talk before you feel ready. Most learners wait until they've mastered a grammar point before using it in conversation. Flip that order. Use the wrong conjugation out loud, get corrected, and you'll remember it far longer than if you'd drilled it silently on flashcards.

2. Pick one accent and stick with it for a while. Spanish sounds different in Madrid, Mexico City, and Buenos Aires. Jumping between them early on makes your ear work harder for no benefit — settle into one, get comfortable, and branch out later.

3. Replace some of your native-language media with Spanish. Not a textbook dialogue — a show you'd actually watch, a song you'd actually like. Comprehensible, enjoyable input outside of class does more for your ear than an extra hour of grammar exercises.

4. Make peace with mistakes in the moment. The learners who progress fastest aren't the most naturally talented — they're the ones who keep talking through the awkward, error-filled stage instead of going quiet out of embarrassment.

5. Get regular, personal feedback. Apps can tell you a sentence is wrong. They can't tell you why you keep making the same mistake, or adjust to how you specifically learn. That's the gap a real teacher fills — and it's the fastest way to stop repeating the same errors.

None of this requires more hours in the day — just spending the hours you already have more deliberately. If you want lessons built around your specific gaps instead of a generic curriculum, message me on Telegram (@bellawriter).
