Two verbs for "to know"

Saber vs. Conocer

sah-BEHR / koh-noh-SEHR — To know (facts) / to know (people, places)

"Sé la respuesta, pero no conozco a tu hermano."
I know the answer, but I don't know your brother.

"Saber" is for facts, information, and skills (sé nadar); "conocer" is for familiarity with people, places, and things. English collapses both into one verb, which is exactly why this needs deliberate practice.
